Horchata: Best Mexican summer Drink.

History :

Horchata is a refreshing drink. The Mexican version of Horchata came into existence in the 16th century, but its roots back in the ancient Roman empire, which is majorly used for its medicinal properties. It en routed from Europe and across the Atlantic to Latin America.

It is a very soothing and refreshing drink for summer, the authentic Mexican Horchata is made up of white rice soaked in water. if you go to any Mexican restaurant they are filled up with many versions of Horchata some are milk-based, some are lactose-free having coconut milk, to enhance the taste shredded coconut with different dried fruits are added in some versions. So can make it as per your taste and choice keeping rice as the main ingredient.

Today here we are sharing one of the authentic recipes of Horchata that you can try at home also.

Ingredients :

1 cup long whole-grain rice ( for 4 servings)1 cinnamon stick
1/2 cup chopped or sliced almonds1 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup sugar ( use honey if you want to avoid sugar)1 1/2 cup coconut milk
1 ltr of water some cubes of ice

Method :

  1. Start by soaking rice, cinnamon sticks , almonds for about 5 hours.
  2. Strain the water and blend the rice ,cinnamon, almonds in a blender until the rice is completely blended.
  3. Starin the resulting mixture in a glass jar .
  4. Add coconut milk, sugar ,vanilla ,mix well add little water as per your choice.
  5. Served chilled with ice cubes ,your refreshing summer drink is ready.
