Shakrana : a sweet dish from Uttar Pradesh.

Origin:

It is from Uttar Pradesh that traditional shakrana originated. Shakrana a very quick and easy recipe made in every home in U.P and considered a healthy and delicious dish. But it is not so popular in other parts of India, this is the only reason for sharing this recipe here to make it popular all over India. We can call it a lost recipe because as we all are moving towards modernization we are losing touch with our roots and heritage. Shakrana used to be part of every large feast and festival in ancient times since it was considered a privilege to prepare and serve it to guests.

The main ingredients are rice & ghee. Shakrana is derived from the word “shakkar”( powdered white sugar in Hindi is called shakkar)

Ingredients :

1 bowl boiled(pre-cooked) white rice2 tsp ghee
half cup almonds ( some chopped some as a whole)half cup pista (some chopped some as a whole)
2 tsp sugar powdered1/2 cup grated coconut
half cup wall-nuts ( some chopped some as a whole)half cup cashews (some chopped some as a whole)
some chironji

Method:

  1. In a big plate or bowl put the rice ( note : we have taken pre cooked rice ).
  2. Add ghee over the rice.
  3. Now add all dry fruits and coconut over that.
  4. Its time to add some sugar.
  5. Your easiet and yummiest shakrana is ready to serve.

Nutritional Value :

Rice is considered a great source of complex carbohydrates, which is a great source of energy for our body. Another main ingredient in this dish is Ghee which is loaded with lots of healing properties, Ghee is very good for our skin & hair and if taken in adequate amount aids in weight loss.
