Aliv seeds: Tiny Seeds Loaded with Health Benefits
Aliv seeds, also called garden cress seeds in English are often called miracle seeds as they are loaded with many health benefits. The other name for these seeds is “Haleem seeds”. These seeds are the powerhouse of numerous benefits that can’t be underestimated.
They fall under the category of “superfood” because they are enriched with proteins and tons of other benefits, but they are sometimes ignored for Chia & flax seeds. It is advisable to take aliv seeds postpartum & for lactating mothers but with the count/consumption amount in mind.

Amount of Consumption
It is important to keep in mind the consumption rate of these seeds, as excess can be bad. The recommended size for these seeds is not more than 1-2 tsp (12 gm ) 2 to 3 times a week. One should take the amount recommended by your dietician or doctor. A high amount of aliv results in stomach upset and they have traces of goitrogens that can prevent iodine absorption in the body.
Methods to consumed these seeds:
- Roasted aliv seeds : Dry roast the seeds in a pan.Then store them in a air tight jar,sprinkle some on your soups and salads in a limited quantity.
- Aliv water : In a glass of water soak the seeds overnight ,next morning add some lemon juice and have it.
- Aliv ladoos : one of the yummiest recipe of these seeds is ladoo.You can make ladoo as :
- Soak half cup of aliv seeds in water for 5 hrs ,they will swell up.
- In a pan add ghee ,add some jaggery ,keep stiring till jaggery starts melting.
- Add grated coconut and aliv seeds.
- Add some chopped almonds.
- Mix well on low flame.
- Transfer the mixture in a plate and keep aside to cool a bit.
- Start making balls or ladoos with both hands by greasing hands with some ghee.
- store in a air tight container and comsume with in 15 days .
- Aliv milk : Soak 5-6 seeds in water for about 8 hours ,and add these seeds to milk.Have it before bedtime .
