Cobb Salad – American Garden Style
History :
The cobb salad is a main-dish American garden salad typically made with chopped salad greens. It came about in 1937 at the Hollywood Brown Derby restaurant, where it became a signature dish. It is named after the restaurant’s owner, Robert Howard Cobb & his chef, Paul J. Posti. Authentic versions of the Cobb salad are prepared using four varieties of greens: iceberg lettuce, watercress, endive and romaine lettuce. Cobb salad is a classic American salad with chicken, bacon, hard boiled eggs, tomatoes, avocado, lettuce and blue cheese. I’m such a fan of this salad as it’s easy, wholesome and filling.
Ingredients :
1 head iceberg lettuce, shredded | 6 slices bacon |
3 eggs | ¾ cup blue cheese, crumbled |
1 avocado – peeled, pitted and diced | 2 tomatoes, seeded and chopped |
3 cups chopped, cooked chicken meat | 1 (8 ounce) bottle Ranch-style salad dressing |
3 green onions, chopped |
Instructions :
1 Place eggs in a saucepan and cover completely with cold water.
2 Bring water to a boil. Cover, remove from heat, and let eggs stand in hot water for 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from hot water, cool, peel and chop.
3 Place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat until evenly brown.
4 Drain, crumble and set aside.
5 Divide shredded lettuce among individual plates.
6 Evenly divide and arrange chicken, eggs, tomatoes, blue cheese, bacon, avocado and green onions in a row on top of the lettuce.
7 Drizzle with your favorite dressing and enjoy.
