Fara-Chhattisgarh Snack
Intoduction :-
Fara is one of the most famous and healthy breakfast of Chhattisgarhi. Fara is a perfect desi style momo. It is made in the form of a dumpling with minimum spices and coriander leaves that add the best flavour to the food. It is healthy and it is quick to make. It is also an oil-free dish. It is prepared by steaming and is, therefore, a healthy and weight loss recipe too.
Ingredients :-
1 cup rice flour | 1 tbsp ghee/clarified butter |
Hot water as required | 1/4 cup chana dal, soaked for 6 hours/overnight |
2 green chilies, chopped | 1/4 cup urad dal, soaked for 6 hours/overnight |
2 tsp chopped coriander leaves | 1 tsp ginger paste |
Salt to taste |
Method :-
- To make the stuffing grind chana and urad dal to make a coarse paste.
- Transfer the paste to a mixing bowl. Add green chillies, ginger paste, coriander leaves and salt. Mix well. Keep aside for now.
- To prepare the dough of rice flour, ghee, salt to taste and hot water. Don’t add too much water. Knead for a while till the dough is quite smooth and keep aside for 15 minutes, covered with a damp muslin cloth.
- Divide into portions. Roll into a small chapati using dry rice flour to avoid sticking.
- Cut into the cap of any container or bowl or glass.
- Place a fara wrapper on a flat dry surface and put the filling in the centre. Fold it.
- Arrange the fara in a steamer plate and steam for 10-15 minutes.
- Serve hot with green chutney and aloo gobi ka khurma.
