Fara-Chhattisgarh Snack

Intoduction :-

Fara is one of the most famous and healthy breakfast of Chhattisgarhi. Fara is a perfect desi style momo. It is made in the form of a dumpling with minimum spices and coriander leaves that add the best flavour to the food. It is healthy and it is quick to make. It is also an oil-free dish. It is prepared by steaming and is, therefore, a healthy and weight loss recipe too.

Ingredients :-

1 cup rice flour1 tbsp ghee/clarified butter
Hot water as required1/4 cup chana dal, soaked for 6 hours/overnight
2 green chilies, chopped1/4 cup urad dal, soaked for 6 hours/overnight
2 tsp chopped coriander leaves1 tsp ginger paste
Salt to taste

Method :-

  1. To make the stuffing grind chana and urad dal to make a coarse paste.
  2. Transfer the paste to a mixing bowl. Add green chillies, ginger paste, coriander leaves and salt. Mix well. Keep aside for now.
  3. To prepare the dough of rice flour, ghee, salt to taste and hot water. Don’t add too much water. Knead for a while till the dough is quite smooth and keep aside for 15 minutes, covered with a damp muslin cloth.
  4. Divide into portions. Roll into a small chapati using dry rice flour to avoid sticking.
  5. Cut into the cap of any container or bowl or glass.
  6. Place a fara wrapper on a flat dry surface and put the filling in the centre. Fold it.
  7. Arrange the fara in a steamer plate and steam for 10-15 minutes.
  8. Serve hot with green chutney and aloo gobi ka khurma.
