Fox Nut (Makhana) Kheer-Navratri Special
Introduction
Makhana kheer is a sweet dessert pudding. This is an easy and popular sweet that is often made during Navratri fasting or Mahashivratri vrat or Ekadasi fasting. Makhana Kheer is a delicious dessert which can be served on any occasion. It tastes delicious and you can also make it on regular days as a sweet. A perfect dessert for the royals.
Ingredients
Servings-4 | |
1 litre milk | 1/4 cup fox nut [makhana] |
2 tbsp sugar | 2 tsp chopped dry fruits (almonds, cashew & pistachios) |
1 tsp cardamom powder | 2 tbsp ghee |
5 saffron strands |
Directions
- Heat ghee in a nonstick pan.
- Add dry fruits & makhana.
- Roast them until makhana turn crispy and dry fruits turn golden.
- Then remove them in a plate and keep aside. Dry fruits separate from the makhana as we will be making a powder of the roasted makhana.
- Boil the milk in a deep non-stick pan, add the sugar, mix well & cook on a high flame for 2-3 mins or till the sugar dissolves, while stirring continuously.
- Reduce the flame to medium, add the crispy makhana, mix well and cook for 20 mins or till the milk has reduced to half, while stirring & scraping the sides of the pan occasionally.
- Add the saffron & cardamom powder, mix well & cook on a medium flame for a min. Switch off the flame.
- Serve kheer hot or warm or cold.
