Papaya Thoran : Stir Fried Green Papaya from Kerala

This dish of papaya originated from Kerala. This dish is found on almost every dining table in Kerala. Thoran is very common on every occasion be it a festival or any other feast. Thoran is basically a dish prepared from different vegetables like carrots, cabbage, beans in dried form. Today we are sharing with you the recipe of papaya Thoran as papaya itself makes a very healthy ingredient as it is very rich in many healthy nutrients and is diabetic friendly. This recipe includes very few steps and tastes amazingly superb when served with rice.

Ingredients: for 4 servings.

Large papaya: 1Grated coconut: 1 cup
Onions: 2 (finely chopped)Green chilies as per taste (finely chopped)
Garlic: 1 tsp (chopped)Turmeric: 1 tsp
Mustard seeds: 1 tspCoconut oil: 1 tsp
Salt as per taste.2-3 red chilies
Curry leaves: 2-3 nos.

Method :

  1. Grate the papaya then mix finely chopped onions,chilies and keep it to rest for 5 mins.
  2. In the above mixture add coconut and salt as per taste.
  3. Now in a pan heat oil,put mustard seeds,red chiilies & curry leaves saute it so that mustard seeds crackle well.
  4. Add Papaya mixture to the oil .
  5. Mix well and cover for few minutes.
  6. Open pan and stir fry until all water gets absorbed.
  7. Your papaya thoran is ready to serve ,this recipe won’t take more than 15 mins.
  8. It tastes delicious when served with rice.
